The city of Pardubice is now richer by one gallery. The University of Pardubice has reopened its gallery right on the campus. Under the name GU: and with a new curator, the modern space is ready to exhibit quality artists from the Czech Republic and abroad. The premiere opening took place on Thursday 12 May.
The painter, photographer and teacher of the Faculty of Restoration at the University of Pardubice, prof. akad. mal. Tomáš Lahoda, who already works as its curator, linked his name with the GU: University Gallery.
The gallery, which will also be open to the public five days a week, will offer visitors a view of the contemporary Czech art scene as well as exhibitions of foreign artists. "The university should present itself to the public not only with the achievements of students and researchers, but also with art. It is a great opportunity for students, academics, staff and the public. They can get a glimpse of what is currently happening in the art scene," explains curator Prof. Tomáš Lahoda.
The gallery is located on the campus of the University of Pardubice. Specifically in the Auditorium building and right next to the University Library and the University shop. However, the area of the former university gallery has been fundamentally transformed and enlarged. The GU Gallery: now offers a clean and minimalist exhibition space, with four rotating exhibitions of artists per year.
The first to present his work in the new gallery is the Czech painter Petr Malina, whose works feature the recurring theme of everyday life connected with the pulsating organism of the town and the city.
