Workshop: Designing Effective Presentations
Many of us have to present our work at some stage: as part of a thesis defence, at a conference, during a seminar, or even for students in a lecture. And while most time is spent on researching and writing the article, thesis or paper, the presentation of the content should not be considered as less important. After all, we would like to share our hard work with others and would like them to find it interesting!
This seminar will consider some aspects around creating effective presentations: from the content that should be included to the design elements such as layout, colours and font choices. The following topics will be covered, among others:
- Turning an academic article/paper into a presentation
- Selecting the appropriate information for presentation
- Structuring the presentation and organising ideas
- Choosing elements of design: layout, fonts, colours etc.
- Embedding videos and sound into presentations
- Using images and copyright issues
Participants will have the opportunity to do some practical application by working on one of their own existing presentations during the session, and should please bring a presentation (finished or in process) to the seminar.
*The presenters will mostly be using PowerPoint, but will also refer to Keno, Prezi and Canva. Principles covered in the seminar can be applied in any programme.
Date: 14.02.2020
