Assoc. Prof. Petr Doležel defended his doctoral dissertation at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Informatics of the University of Pardubice (FEEI UPCE) in the field of Information, Communication and Control Technology. He has been working in this field as an academic and research employee, and he has also realized several research stays abroad (Norway, Slovakia, Spain). At present Assoc. Prof. Doležel holds the post of Vice-Dean for Research and Development at FEEI UPCE.
In his professional activity Assoc. Prof. Doležel focuses on the methods of soft computing (mainly special topologies of artificial neural networks) applied in signal and image processing, optical methods for detection and localisation, and in control processes. In this area of interest, he has published many papers in professional journals and he regularly takes part in significant scientific symposiums and conferences. The area in which he has achieved the biggest success, however, is interdisciplinary cooperation and applied research in collaboration with private sector manufacturing companies. In recent years Assoc. Prof. Doležel has participated in the research of several significant application-oriented projects, which provided tools for example for automatic visual evaluation of welds quality in the automotive industry, for determining the level of degradation of polymer coatings, collection and evaluation of large quantities of stock data during operation of agricultural and forest technology, evaluation of the extent of deterioration of textile machines, and so on. At the moment Assoc. Prof. Doležel is the leading researcher of the project PosiTrans, within which two large research teams of experts from the University of Pardubice in cooperation with six industrial companies propose new approaches to detection and localisation of transport means, people, and other objects, which can be used for design of intelligent transport systems.
In the professional community Assoc. Prof. Doležel is also active in several editorial boards of professional journals, programme committees of scientific conferences, furthermore he is a member of a subject advisory board at three Czech universities, and acts as a supervisor of doctoral students.
He spends his free time with family, he enjoys travelling, sports and falconry.
