University of Pardubice, Faculty of Chemical Technology, Institute of Chemistry and Technology of Macromolecular Material.
I am an academic employee, Professor at the Institute of Chemistry and Technology of Macromolecular Materials. I am a supervisor of the doctoral study programme Materials Surface Engineering. Within my pedagogical activity I have led more than 70 master’s degree students, since 2007 I have supervised more than 30 bachelor theses. In addition to that, more than 15 doctoral students have successfully defended their dissertation under my supervision, and I am supervising two more doctoral students at present. Since 1999 I have been a member of the editorial board of journal Pigment & Resin Technology, Charles University. Since 2004 I have been a member of the editorial board of journal Anticorrosion Methods and Materials, in 2003 I became a member of the editorial board of CHEMagazín and later on of other foreign journals (Coatings, Paints and Varnishes). Since 1996 I have been a member of the international scientific conference International Conference on Coatings Technology CCT. At the moment I am a member of the scientific and organisational committee of Pigments and Binders. Furthermore, I am a member of the international organisation FATIPEC (Fédération d’Associations de Techniciers des Industries des Peintures, Vernis, Emaux et Encres d‘Inpromeric dei Europe Continentale), and finally a member of Literati Club, Charles University.
My research interest focuses on the field of prevention of metal materials from corrosion. Since the beginning of my scientific career, which has been more than 25 years, I have concerned myself with the study of corrosion inhibition with the help of inorganic coating. For the effective use of natural raw materials we have, for example, devised a protective paint system containing natural minerals, which significantly and positively influence properties of composite protective layer – paint coating. Another area of my research are the processes happening under organic surface. In the past years I have been observing the surface treatment of morphologically interesting pigment particles using nanolayers and creation of highly effective anticorrosive pigments for organic coatings. This research is done in close cooperation with the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic in Řež, and with the Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry of the Academy of Sciences in Prague. My research work has been supported by many financial grants. In these grant projects I acted either as a co-grantee or a member of the research team.
I am author or co-author of more than 100 original contributions in international journals, and many other papers have been published at home. The results of my work are further published in tens of international conference proceedings. I am the main co-author of a chapter in the monography Organic Coatings for Corrosion Control (Ed. G.P.Bierwagen), American Chemical Society, Washington DC, 1998.
I have received recognition for my research work abroad several times: Award for Excellence 1999 (Anticorrosive Spinel-Type Pigments of the Second Generation in the journal Anti-Corrosion Methods and Materials), Award for Excellence 2003 (Mechanism of the Action of Zinc-Powder in Anticorrosive Coatings, Anti-Corrosion Methods and Materials), Highly Commended Award 2007 (Nanoparticles of Soluble Alkaline Silicates as Flash Rusting Inhibitors in Water-Borne Paints in the journal Anti-Corrosion Methods and Materials), Outstanding Paper Award 2008 (Synthesis and Properties of Pigments Based on XxZnyFe2O4 Ferrites With Nonisometric Particles in the journal Pigment & Resin Technology.)
Beside my professional work my interests are nature - animate as well as inanimate, and sports.
